When I saw that Torrence Memorial had closed their applications to their New Grad program starting in March 2011 I realized we needed a new grad 2011 thread! The 2010 thread was a great place to ask... Read More

Hello everybody! I'm new in this post. I was reading ur comments, and very happy for people that got hired.Good luck to all of u!!!!!!!!!!! I'm an international graduate, but I took some classes required by BON in California. I finish my classess in June, 2008.,and got my RN lisence in July 2011. Since then I'm trying to get a job in South California,LA area(can't reocateI have a family , kids),but............. can't find anything. I filled out over 130 applications.Hospital says :"Go for a start to a nursing home/hospise care". Nursing homes/hospise says:"Go to a hospital first".I also have some problem to fill out application online, they have a requirement field, but didn't give me a choise to choose a country(for examle: my education info, gives only US states, but i finish my high school in another country.Or New Grad position asking for my previous work experience, and it's a required field to filll out,and did not accepting an application without it.Come on !!! It's New Grad position , what work experience??!!!). Sorry ,but I find that very "not smart". Who create those aplications?! I went in person to the HR, but they just gave me an email to apply. I think applying in person works better.I feel like a robot respond to my applications. But this is just my opinion. Any suggestions? Pliz HELP It's like u will get a job if u have an experience, but to get an experience u have to get a job.

That's the dilemma in this economy. It's like a catch-22. But as others have said, just keep trying. Apply everywhere. It takes time, but it will get done.

You might want to check Sharp Healthcare. I think in San Diego they are starting another new grad program and will be accepting app. Oct 11th to 17th or somewhere in that timeframe.
    Good Luck

The application will be posted October 7 per the website, good luck everyone!

Also, does anyone have advice on panel interviews specifically what to focus and prepare for clinical scenario questions for med surg/tele/step down units? I have found great information on behavioral questions through the website but not so much on scenario questions. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!

Sharp was the very first interview I went too and the panel interview threw me off since I didn't know it was a panel. The group I had weren't very outgoing so it was difficult to read their expressions. They asked the standard questions like why do you want to work here at Sharp ( so be sure you know their mission statement ), what do you have to offer sharp, why you chose your particular field, your strengths and weaknesses, etc. Then in my interview they also asked if I every made any mistakes (hard to answer if you haven't had much hospital work ), what would you do if you had trouble with another colleague or nurse (here I made my mistake and said I could go to the charge nurse--they want you to work it out with the nurse on your own and only as a last resort go to the charge nurse ) The best question was the last one where they asked if I was having people over for Thanksgiving and last minute forgot that I didn't put the turkey in the oven, what would I do. Really random question. You're on your own if they ask that one.
    Good Luck

For Loma Linda University Children's Hospital... Make sure you merge your two letters of rec with your resume as the website only allows for one upload/attachment.The website says the apps will be disqualified without the letters.. EEK! Good luck!

    hi everybody,

thanks so much for posting the 2011 new grad thread.

i graduate dec 2011 from a school in boston with a bsn, but my fiance just took a great job in san francisco. how's the new grad market looking, say, within 100 miles. mixed blessing, i had a job lined up here in cambridge...now...who knows?

i figure i take the boards in february, so an april start date sounds about right?

    thanks for any help!

Unfortunately the job market is horrible here. We are way too saturated with new grads. Is it possible to take the job you were offered and get some experience and then move out here? Im a BSN too, graduated with honors and out of my class of 95 only 7 of us have found jobs.

thanks for replying. it's terrible here too, but i'm lucky enough to have a "promise" as they say, at my current hospital. if it wasn't for my fiance getting a great job in san fran, i'd/we'd be all set...errr...so yeah, i'll take the job here and try to get something there...and the months will add up, and up and up...i guess we should be looking in texas, florida, michigan, etc. oh boy.
