California RN Endorsement (Grad from ABSN)

U.S.A. California

Published

Hey guys,

I searched through the forums and couldn't find an exact answer for my question.

I'm trying to endorse from another state to CA, I graduated from an accelerated second degree program. My state is enrolled in the Nursys verification site.

My question is, do I need to submit transcripts from all the schools I took pre-reqs for the program as well? On the application it just says a transcript from the nursing school that I received my degree from (no mention of needing any other transcripts). I know from reading other threads people have had issues with pre-reqs when trying to endorse.

I'm sure other people have endorsed in a similar situation and wanted to see what you had to do.

Thanks!

I would really like to know the answer to this too. I am a resident of California, however we had to move to Louisiana because that's where the army stationed my husband. Regardless of the case, we both agreed that after my husband finishes his time in service we are going back home. While my husband was deployed I decided to finish my nursing degree here. So now my husband is in medical board process and I am almost done with school and I am really worried about the whole license endorsements. Like should I take my NCLEX here in Louisiana or should I take it back home? But I don't know how my recent transcripts will meet the California state requirements :( I'm really confused and worried

I endorsed to California after I graduated from an accelerated program, and I only submitted one transcript from where I attended nursing school. I applied for my permanent and my temporary CA license in person at the BON's office in Sacramento, and the gentleman I spoke to in the office told me as long as my pre-reqs were listed on my nursing school transcript, I wouldn't need to submit any other transcripts. He said some nursing schools do not list transfer courses on their official transcripts, and in those cases the BON would need transcripts from the other schools.

Were you issued a temporary license without the official transcripts? Given you have an active RN license outside of CA

I did some calling / asking and was told by my nursing school registrar that in the past nurses who have wanted to endorse had to get all transcripts sent from other schools (since ours don't have pre-reqs listed). That sucks, and seems like a huge waste of paper / money but oh well...

Thanks for your help 78taylor99!

Same here, except I didn't go in person to Sacramento.

Check your nursing school transcript and if the pre-reqs are listed as being satisfied by transfer (or however, as long as you've gotten credit for them), you should be fine. I only sent in my nursing school transcript and had no problem with endorsement.

Otherwise, if you want to play it 100% safe, just have all the transcripts sent and plant a tree to help assuage the guilt of the BRN's paper waste. Sometimes we can't help what we have to do.

Best of luck!

I had already had my nursing transcripts sent to the BON when I went to their office, but I am not sure if they were considered or not in issuing the temp. I am thinking they were not since the man I spoke to seemed like he hadn't looked at my transcript yet given our conversation. I found the website confusing regarding if they needed them before issuing the temp or not. I did need to have my fingerprints already processed prior to being issued a temp license. After I obtained my temp license, it only took about two weeks to be issued my permanent license.

I received an RN license by endorsement from the California BRN in 2011 and did not need to submit transcripts from schools where prerequisite courses were taken. The BRN only wanted to see transcripts from the school of nursing that I had attended.

Did you send them yourself?

No, there is a form that the school must fill out. I had my transcript sent directly from the school to the BON.

Just wanted to chime in to confirm that if the school where you graduated does not list all of the pre-requisites on their transcript, then you DO need to send in transcripts from the schools where you completed your pre-requisites. I did a 2nd degree program and after receiving my transcript the CA board asked me to submit a transcript showing microbiology because that was not shown on my nursing school transcript (I took microbiology at a community college before formally enrolling in a 2nd degree program).

You need to send the transcript request form from the CA license application to each school so they can send that form along with your transcript.

I graduated in Oklahoma and was immediately moving to CA. I decided to get my OK license and then endorse to CA just because I didn't want to deal with not having some classes that I might need to sit for NCLEX through CA. So, to the poster in LA, I suggest you get your LA license and then endorse to be on the safe side. I also sent my transcripts from all 3 universities (a BSBA from one, pre-reqs from another and and ADN from the last one) just to be safe. It took 4 weeks to get my permanent license this past summer. I applied for a temporary one as well but got my perm before my temp. Go figure.
