Best hospitals in the East Bay

  1. I am a traveler and just finished a contract at Alta Bates( didn't like it there ) and was looking for a permanent position. My problem is I'm not sure where to work I hear so much about different hospitals from a travelers perspective, I would like to hear from nurses who are on staff and their opinions. My speciality is Med Surg. Any input would be appreciated.

Hi Gucci. I am not a nurse yet, but I hear that the Sutter hospitals are a great place to work. I live in Castro Valley, and one day hope to work here at Eden Hospital, which is a Sutter hospital. Do you like being a traveling nurse? It sounds very interesting! Nice to meet you!

Hi Rozy! Wow, that's quite a move from Texas to Castro Valley! I think you will really like the Bay Area. I have heard Eden is a great place to work at. I've also heard good things about Valley Med in Pleasanton and Children's Hospital in Oakland, as well as Alta Bates.

I am not a nurse yet, in fact I am waiting to hear if I got into Chabot's ADN program, which should be any day now.

Good luck and keep us posted as to where you end up working and how you like it!

Washington in Fremont is a small, big-city facility that I've heard nice things about.

There is a Sutter facility in San Leandro (I think that's where it is) that my former in-laws were very happy with, they said the staff seem happy.

Could you tell me (if you don't mind), why you didn't like it there?

You might get more answers if you post your own thread about this. The thread title is about East Bay hospitals, but the one you're asking about is way south.

If you want to work all major holidays and night shift forever, than go to Children's Oakland! Believe me, I know first hand! I was there for 16 years and the ICN is not flexible with those issues.
You are better off trying Kaiser, they have great retirement, and they treat their nurses better. I don't know much about med surg, but the nicu is great.
