Anyone near Sacramento area?

Sacramento City College has an LVN program. It's competitive to get into and I think they're coming up on their application filing period. Their costs are MUCH lower than $40k... American River College may also have an LVN program. I'm not sure about Sierra College.

Sacramento City College is the only community college in the Sacramento area that has a LVN program. Other schools that are in the Sacramento area includes Charles A Jones, costs around $20,000. Twin rivers adult school is a part-time program which costs $22,000. Schools here in Sacramento like Carrington, Unitek and Kaplan are all above $30,000.

I'm going to carrington starting in march and its about $50,000. Crazy prices, but they have a decent pass rate and one of my friends went there and is now an rn with a great job.

Sac City is really hard to get into.

It's not so much that it's hard to get into, it's that it can take a while to get in. If you're not accepted, you have to keep re-applying until you do. I'm in the RN program and it took me 8 semesters to be accepted. Most of my classmates applied between 3 and 8 times before they were accepted. A couple of LVN students that I'd met over the years applied between 2-5 times before they were accepted. They have since revamped their admission process, so you only can apply once per year for both semesters (and that time is coming up soon!) so I'm not as sure about how difficult it is or how many qualified applicants they have each year. When I first started applying for my program, they took about 60 applicants out of 900 or so. Most of those applied to all the programs in the area, so I figure that about 200-250 applicants were accepted every year region-wide. Unfortunately, while I've seen (occasionally) info about RN applicant statistics, I haven't seen the same kind of info for their VN program.

Of course, it doesn't cost you to apply, as far as I know, and you're 100% guaranteed to NOT get a seat if you don't.

Nothing against LVNs but just get your RN!!! I can not stress enough.
