I am a pending student at Downey Adult School which is actually in Los Angeles county- not Orange county. It's located on Imperial Hwy. and Woodruff Ave. It's an excellent school that is accredited by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. The passing rate for the NCLEX-PN is exceptional, at this moment it stands at 96%! The process of being accepted into their VN program requires an assesment of 10th grade level English and Math. The second step is being accepted into their Pre-VN course. Out of the X number of applicants, only 60 will be accepted into the class. As of right now the Pre-VN course is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 am to 11:30 a.m. that lasts about 6 weeks. Once entered in the fundamentals course you will learn medical terminology, basic medication administration, math for pharmacology, and basic A&P. During this time an interview with the DON will take place in which they ask you questions to get to know you, and to make sure this is the right career path for you. Lastly, out of the Pre-VN course only 30 will be selected to be entered into the 12 month LVN program. The hours for the program are Monday through Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on clinical days, and 8:30 to 2:30 on theory days. If you have any more questions, you can message me on this forum. Hello Everyone,

I am Steph's classmate at Downey Adult School and I must agree with everything that she has posted about the school. It is an excellent program. I was immediately impressed by the staff and the school's organization. I am in the Pre-VN class (two weeks left!) and claiming a spot in the final VN program :specs: Although I have obviously not completed the entire program yet, I would highly recommend this program to anyone who may be considering it.

Hi girls, I'm interested in going to Downey Adult School also and would like to know is there anything I can do to be more prepare for the pre-VN class. How often are the pre-VN classes? Can you please explain the whole process? Thank you.

Hi rneung!

The next pre-VN class starts in January. The Fall schedule is available now, so you can just go to www.das.edu to look at the schedule for specific dates.

Basic English and Math is all you really need to do well in Pre-VN. Of course, if you have any experience with Anatomy & Physiology it would be a plus.

Thanks for the quick reply MissCre. Can you tell me what I should do now. I went to the website and it just have for me to register for the orientation, nothing about the pre-VN classes. Thanks for your help.

You should register for the orientation exam. Once all interested candidates have taken and passed the exam, then you would have to be invited to participate in the Pre-VN class. They only select 65 students to move into the Pre-VN portion. So just brush up on your basic English and Math to prepare for the orientation exam.

I attend Downey's vn program, and although it is not a requiement to have a healthcare background, I would highly suggest to take a CNA course or have some sort of college background. All of the students have some sort of college or healthcare background. Also, brush up on basic math and english skills. The entrance test is composed of percent, ratio, decimals, word problems, etc.
