Hi there,

I'm about to finally apply to the nursing program at El Camino in Torrance after 2 years of pre-reqs............:balloons:

I was wondering if anyone here is in the program. Any advice or comment on the program would be greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

Hi there, just graduated this past June. The program is great. Get ready for another 2 years of intense studying. El Camino has a great passing rate on the NCLEX. Most graduates pass the 1st time, like I did. These are the things you must do or going to do to succeed IMHO:

1. Get to know Martha, the head registration person. She is the gatekeeper to everything there.

2. Join Iota Kappa Chi, the nursing club. It will help you network with everyone.

3. Get to know Marissa. She is one of the tutors there.

4. Take the test taking strategies class they offer at ECC. It really helps with taking the exams they give you.

5. Instructors I like, make sure you take these names down:

Mrs. Moon, Mrs. Ouerkerk, Dr. Orton, Mrs. Stephens, Mrs. Hellwig, Mrs. Kidwell, Mrs. White, Mrs. Gellar-White

Any more questions let me know

Knightnurse thank you so much for all the usuful information........I will keep it in mind. I am glad to know that there are so many good teachers in the program.

I know it's an intense and demanding program but I am ready for it, I've been taking pre-reqs for the past two years and I can't wait to start taking nurses classes. I'm applying next week and then it's the waiting game.

Thanks again.

Hi! I'm applying to th El Camino program this March, is there anybody else out there applying/in the program? I've heard the waiting list is now 1 1/2 years, not sure if that's for real or just the worst case scenario they tell everyone. If anybody knows anything or has any experience, I'd love to talk with you!

HI there,

I'm still waiting to get my letter.........I applied in October and I can't believe they havent' mailed them yet.............arghhhh.........:angryfire

A friend of mine is starting the program next week and she only had to wait for one semester...........so hopefully the one year and a half is the worst case scenario.

I will let you know as soon as I get my letter......which hopefully should be any day now.

Wow, I really can't believe they haven't mailed it yet. Have you called and seen if it got lost maybe? Because that' ridiculous. I'm happy for your friend, that's awesome! It substantiates my thoughts that the 1 1/2 year is a worst-case. Did she have awesome grades? Good luck... keep us updated!

It is ridiculous.........I wrote them an e-mail and they told me that the letters will be mailed sometime this month........so I just have to wait, but it's been a long wait already!!!!

My friend didn't have a 4.0 in the pre-reqs, I believe she had mostly B's.......she was number 73 on the wait list for spring 2008 and she got a call two weeks ago informing her that she was in. Apparently they accepted more people into the program this semester.

I will let you know as soon as I get my letter.

Hi,

I finally got my letter two weeks ago.............I am guaranteed admission for Fall 2009 and I am number 25 on the wait list for Spring 2009.

I was disappointed at first because I have to wait so long, but all the people I talked to told me that I should be in for the Spring of 2009.....let's hope.

I just wanted to give you guys an update and to let everyone who's applying to El Camino know, that unfortunately the waiting is now 1 1/2 year.

congrats Daniela!!! That's so exciting!!! I changed jobs, I'm now doing front office stuff for a chiropractor/massage therapy office and it's awesome, so I think i'm content to wait for the ECC Little Company night program, that way I can still work FT and not have to figure something else out. Let us know if you get to start in the Spring, and good luck!

thank you

Congrats on your new job!!!!!

If I can give you a piece of advice, as soon as you are on the wait list, try to take Nursing 151 (human development and health) and Nursing 152 (Intro do Pharmacology), so that when you officially start the program you only have Nursing 150 to worry about.

I will do that while waiting.............

Hello,

I just wanted to let everyone who applied to El Camino know that, starting next semester they are changing the adimission requirements.

Bad news is that they will apply the new requirements to people who have already applied and who are already on the waiting list.

We will all have to take and pass the TEAS test. The nursing department is very disorganized and they still don't know when we will have to take the test and what's the passing score and what will happen if we don't pass the test. They're keeping this very secret, I'm not sure why, lots of people who are waiting to start next semester don't even know they have to take and pass the test before they can actually start NS.

I don't think this whole thing is fair since we all applied based on the old requirements and nothing was ever mentioned about changing them.

I just wanted to let you guys know because god knows when you will be notified by the nursing department......
