You mentioned you have a 4.0 in bio. What does that mean? If you have a 4.0 in all three bio classes (anatomy, physiology, and microbiology) and you have a 3.5 overall gpa, you have a pretty good chance at walking right into the program. Your 4.0 last semester wont matter. Its your gpa from the most recent transcript that has a minimum of 12 units taken. So assuming all the above is correct, you would have 5 points each for the three bio classes and then 2 points for a 3.5-3.99 gpa... this would give you 17 out of the 18 total maximum points and a VERY strong contender.

I should also add, if you were "rounding" your gpa in your question... you may actually have less points. I think I remember seeing that a 3.0-3.499 is 1 point.... but you'd still have 16 points and thats still very good

hi wildemel! thanks for your reply. yes I got A's in anatomy, physiology, and microbiology. What i meant with my last semester gpa is my gpa from the most recent semester (fall 09).

I'm no admission counselor, but its safe to say you are in. I called them over the summer and they said that people with a "16 and above basically walk right in". I'm at 16... the typical cutoff... super nervous. If we dont get in, the application process is completely different starting for Spring 2011 applicants... not sure if thats a good or bad thing yet.

yeah, you're right. once they change their admitting process it would be completely dfferent, and i dont think i will be able to get in.. thanks for your information.i hope we both get in for fall 2010.

    Hello!

I'm helping a friend apply to nursing schools in the area and he too applied to Saddleback College for Fall 2010.

I'm interested in the Academic Score System and total points that prospective students are being assigned. Per the website they take only:

    Anatomy (4 units)
    Physiology (4 units)
    Microbiology (5 units)
and GPA from the most recent transcript with 12 units or more

On another page, it also lists English 1A as a prereq course (3 units) for a total of 16 units.

So.. I'm confused as to the total amount of points a person is given... 16? 18?

If anyone can clarify for me, I'd greatly appreciate it!

    Thank you!

Total points is 18.. English is not counted in the equation. 5 points for each A in micro, physio, anatomy. 3 points for a B. 3 points for a 4.0, 2 points for a 3.5-3.99. I'm not sure of grades lower than a B or gpa's below a 3.5... if that is your friends situation, then he will be let in by lottery and not the academic system.

    wildemel:

Thank you so much for a quick reply and clearing that up for me. He has As for anatomy and physio and a 4.0 GPA, but unfortunately.. he has a C from micro (from long long time ago).

I guess that means he'll be in the lottery.

    Thanks again!

All I heard was that anything under 15 pts is prob lottery. And realistically, someone with 15 points could have 2 A's one B and a 3.99 gpa!!!! Soooo competitive!!!!

OMG, SO competitive!! I'm so glad that it's not me going through the process now.
I thought it was hard trying to get into a program 4 years ago.. I can only imagine how hard it is now.

Thanks again for the info!! Good luck to you!

I think you guys with 4.0 are definitely in. I have 15 pts. 3.9 GPA and 2 A's and a B in my pre-req... kind of scary I do have a bachelors degree already so I have the core classes complete but as far as points go, this program is crazy competitive I just hope I get in. Hope to see you all there in the fall!!!
