Any CSUB Fall 2012 Hopefuls?

You got one here!

Wow at least you know people that can help you. That's great hopefully we can help each other out. I was a horrible student in high school, but in college I made okay grades. I have a really bad habit which is cramming the night before an exam or even the actual day of the exam. It worked for me in the pre-reqz, but I don't plan on doing this in the program. I plan on avoiding stress as much as I can. I have put myself in those types of situations too many times and hated myself for it. I think if you study everyday and put in 4 hours at least you won't find yourself to be stressed out. Do you plan to work while in the program?

No, I quit my job recently so I can focus on school. You?

I work for my uncle he's a cardiovascular surgeon. He's really understanding about school. I just go once a week for a couple of hours. He doesn't mind if I don't come. So I kind of have a job.

Oh nice. I will continue volunteering at Memorial while going to school so that's about as close to work as I'll get besides some other organizations I'm apart of.

Does anyone know when we will be enrolled in the classes?

Hey sorry it's taken me forever to write back been really busy at work... I am going to do my CPR through my hospital SJCH since its free... I will also be quitting my job in the next 2 months or so ( it's sad, I will like where I work) to focus on school but I may get a part time/ weekend job at the hospital ( not sure yet ). Patho was a very interesting class, do you guys know if your taking Dr. mcbride? I wish they would give us our final letters already I'm very anxious for it. And hopefully the letter will come with some more information about the program like what to expect etc. In the original letter they gave us they said that we will be added to our nursing classes sometime in next couple months. I am very excited to meet you all and wish you all the best with your people. I also hope we have a very good class and that we all bond well. It's going to be a long three years if we aren't able to rely on each other.

stacey:Oh that's good. I used to volunteer for SJVC, but now I stopped. I think about doing it again because it was such a good experience.

I have no idea who our professor will be. It was said we will be enrolled in our classes in late aug. Does anyone know if we wait until our sept 7 to turn in our checklist or do we do it ASAP.?

@Kher: Your right it will be 3 long years if we can't bond now. I hope to be crying by the end of the program because of the relationships i development while being a nursing student.

Everything we experience in the program will hopefully be a wonderful memory.

OH and everyone should try out the spin class at the gym. It's so much fun if they are thinking about getting fit.

I know nursing is going to be stressful and I hope i don't have class when this spin class is being offered.

Hey future nurses, CONGRATULATIONS! :nurse: I am a student at CSUB hoping to get into the Fall 2013 Nursing class. I have finished all my pre-req's except for phil and stats. I was wondering if any of you could please give me honest advice on how to get into the program? I know you have been in my shoes before and I've been working really hard to get good grades and do well. Any advice you have would be much appreciated :) I envy you so much and wish I was starting this fall! I hope to hear from all of you soon!!

Hey thanks.

The advice I'd give you would be not to give up. Every point matters so you should take advantage of retaking classes you got B's in for A's. You have three retakes and it seems like you have a whole year to take those classes you need and retake other ones you feel like you could of done better in. Unless you have straight A's. Aim for A's not B's. The Teas test isn't easy so unless you can score 85 or higher 3 B's won't kill you.Just keep in mind if you really want to be a nursing student at CSUB it is 100% possible.

As far as the primary points go try to aim for 60 or higher because it seems those were the students that got accepted this fall( I think you get primary points now for being a csub continuing student For us those points were considered secondary so you may need to aim for 65 or higher since there are more points.)

If you have 70 points or higher don't worry. I am sure you will get in then.

Keep in mind these points do change yearly. Sometimes it's really easy to get in and other times it's harder.

Secondary points matter too. It moved me in front of 6 people who had the same points as me. I moved up because I had the most secondary points. So in an event of a tie in points if you have more secondary points that does help. Especially if 10 students have the same points as you and your all competing to fall in the top 60.

Good Luck!

Fall 2012 students:

THe checklist needs to be done b4 orientation just in case anyone misread the letter like I did.

I hope we all get our final letters. Looking forward to meeting everyone. :)

So happy for all of you accepted!! CSUB is so competitive you should be proud of yourselves!! And congrats Stacey on your marriage!!

Thank you!!!

Hey everyone I just wanted to ask about the checklist. I already emailed the adviser so waiting for her reply. On the letter we got it says to only complete 1-12 on the checklist. However once you go to newly admitted students to see the checklist it says "If you fail to complete all of these requirements by orientation, you will be unable to continue in the nursing program." So I am really confused about this. Some of the things we sign after item 12 require we take a test or have an instructor sign off. Other things like the safety annual checklist I am entirely confused about. Do you guys have an idea about what we need to submit to secure our seat and get out final letters?
