Hi there :)

I'm a native LA gal, but spent the majority of my growing-up years here in Michigan. I'm due to graduate in May 2010 and I'm considering packing up and heading back to the west when all is said and done. I miss my home!

I've read many great posts on here that answered all my questions regarding pay, cost of living, etc. Thank you all, I love this site and have passed it on to most of my nursing class. :)

So my question is, as a new nurse (in the near future), whom, by that time, will be craving the sunshine state, should I stay here in MI to gain some experience, or do I have a good chance of finding a decent graduate nurse position in SoCal, with a pay that will support me? I would take my boards here.

I'm known to make impromtu decsions, so I figure I better prepare myself now. :)

Thanks!

Chandra

HI,

Am from Michigan as well, trying to find a job in the san fran bay area even though i have more than 7 years of nursing under my belt, finding a job has proven to be very difficult. I feel your desire to move but i caution you not to be impulsive. Do your home work apply for jobs in Michigan aswell and only move if and when you have a solid offer, Take advantage of the new grad programs you will not regret it and you can start those in michigan as well or if you find a hospital in LA by all means consider it. I don't think you'll have much trouble finding a new grad job in socal. I live in the bay area and i know its next to impossible to get a job as a new grad, especially if you didn't graduate from NS there. Depends on where in LA you are looking to live and how far you are willing to commute, but I think if you decided come back to LA you will be okay in terms of finding a job.

Bay Area, Sacramento and San Diego pretty much (from what I've heard from many sources) do not have a nursing shortage much anymore, but central and sothern california still do.

Good Luck! Let us know what you decide!
