Where to live in SF

If my husband will be working in Palo Alto and I want to work in the city (say, UCSF) where would be a good place to rent an apartment? We were originally thinking Redwood City or Belmont but wouldn't that still give me a nasty commute? I've heard bad things about SSF. Someone enlighten me!

A decent place to live in the City is in the Sunset district, and probably Park Merced apartments might work for you. I haven't been inside one of their units for years (they are right across from the SF State Campus), but I know they have done A LOT of remodeling and I have heard they are actually nice. Plus, they accept pets (which can be tough to find in this city). The benefit to being in that part of the City is two-fold. First, it is very easy on/off freeway access for your husband's commute to Palo Alto (literally less than 1 mile to the freeway). Second, it is steps away from the SF Muni Metro line so it would be easy for you to hop on the M-line to the tunnel and then you could transfer to the N-Judah line which drops you off right at UCSF. Alternatively, it is an easy drive from Park Merced to UCSF (straight shot down 19th Avenue). Then you just have to pay for parking once you get there.

Hope this helps. I have lived in the city for years, so if you need further help, just send me a PM or post another question.
