Whats the quickest way to get my BSN in nursing if you have a BA in other areas...

I am going to finish up with my bachelors in liberal studies end of december 08 and planning to go into nursing after that...i decide teaching is not for me...should i finish it up first since i only have a semester to go or jump into the nursing program and not finish up the degree. i am afraid that if i have my bacherlors already then i may not be eligible for financial..any advice? also what is the best way to go about getting into the nursing program? would having the bachelors degree help? i am in the sacramento area...which is the best schools...also..how long would it take before i can complete with the nursing program...my ultimate goal: BSN in nursing. Thanks so much for responding.

Definitely finish the Bachelor's degree first, that will make it easier for you to get a variety of different programs that you will be able to apply to.

Please check out the Nursing Career forum for specific information that you need to have.

It is not going to be immediate for you to get into a program, almost every program has a waiting list as well as pre-reqs that need to be done. But with having the Bachelor's degree, then you are also eligible for accelerated programs, etc.

Hi hapiyogi.

Probably your fastest way to an RN is to get into the accelerated 2nd degree program at Sac State. They do competitive admissions so you don't need to worry about lotteries or waiting lists -- if (and it's a significant if) you've got the grades to get in.

You could also consider the $amuel Merritt B$N. Cost is the major issue there.

If you're open to moving then you can check out all the other state schools. With your BA it's probably going to be faster than trying to get into one of the AS programs through the CCs though I don't know for sure. Check to see if any of them do competitive admissions.

Just curious as to what you decided to do. I too, have a BA (in art/photography) and decided in 2006/2007 to go into nursing.....(my mom is an RN). So I enrolled in an accelerated LVN program in 2007, graduated in March 2008, passed my NCLEX in July, and am now working as an LVN. But I want to go for my RN as well, soooooo......... I decided to do the Indiana State University online program (which I have yet to start). But I plan on doing that while I'm working as an LVN so I can at least be making money and gaining experience while receiving my further education. I met with a College Network advisor and MOST of my general ed. units from my BA transfer over for the BSN, so instead of having to take like 18 classes I only have to take 6, which is kinda nice. Anyways, not so sure that's the quickest way, but it's the most convenient way for me. Hope that helped.

Unitek College. It took 12 months, full time, so I didn't work while I was in it.
