What is new graduate programme?

by JJG07

Hi, I am a Foreign educated nurse, now in bay area. I am planning to take my nclex and in the mean time i would like to do something which will help my career. I appreciate any suggestions. I would also like to know.

1. What is new graduate programme?
2. What is BLS and ACLS certification?
3. Before start practising how can i get some exposure or experience in nursing here?
4. Do any one know of any hospitals which provides any of these oppurtunities in bay area?

Any input will be appreciated.

Do you actually have a green card or visa that will permit you to work? Without that, you are unable to get any type of experience as you cannot legally work without a SSN#. Can you be more specific............when did you graduate, from which country? Do you have work experience in your country of more than one year?

New grad program is just that, it is usually an intensive program for new grads and is usually held twice a year by many of the larger hospitals in the area.

ACLS is Advanced Cardiac Life Support
BLS is Basic Life Support

You will find more helpful information on the International Forum, as well as the NCLEX Discussion Forum.

I had my BSN from India in 2001, now in Bay area on H4. I am aware that nclex is the first step for an employer to apply a GC for men in CA, though i have my CGFNS and Visa screen Certificate with me.

I applied for nclex in CA nursing board and waiting to hear from them.

I was suggested earlier by you about applying in Vermont, but i am concerned
1. Do i need an address of my physical presence in Vermont while applying?
2. Will the endorsement to CA takes same time as that of initial nclex approval?
3. Do an employer in California apply for my GC if i have my license from Vermont?

I feel i am losing in touch with my nursing and i want to some how refresh it. I am volunteering in a hospital, but no way i can go near to patient care, other than shifting and transfering them.

Will i be able to do ACLS and BLS, atleast to think back i have done something. Or am i stuck?

Can you suggest me any programmes i can do in my existing conditions?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.
