what high school prerequisites do i need for the nursing program at sac city or ARC?

by etraen

Im currently in high school and I want to go to ARC or Sac City to study nursing and eventually become an RN. I've been looking at the Los Rios school's pages and they say I need psychology, physciology, nutrition and a few more prerequisites before I can be admitted into the nursing program? is this true, Im a senior now and cannot fit these classes into my schedeule, am i required to take these classes in college before i can start the nursing program?

Thanks for any help,
Confused & Stressed.

Also i know they do a physical and a drug screening, is that a urine test or a hair folical?

These prerequisite classes are taken in college unless you have taken AP classes in high school which you receive college credit for. High school classes typically do not have the in-depth knowledge that will be covered in college, but the more classes you can take toward your goal, the better prepared you will be when you get to those college courses. Having a strong background in the sciences will give you a leg up!

As far as the drug screening, I've only seen the urine test, not hair, but who knows?...

Good luck on your education--it seems like it takes forever sometimes, but it is well worth it!

I started a year ago at ARC and the youngest person we had in our class turned 21 a month into the semester. The drug test is a urine test and must be done at certain facilities - they'll give you the information about cost and where you can have it done.

Go in and speak with a counselor. The web site is spot on about the prerequisites and there are a lot of people applying - we had 600 people apply and 62 admitted in my semester. Many people are applying multiple times to get in. They won't let you apply until your prereqs have been met.

Best of luck to you. ARC has a great program and I'm enjoying it immensely.
