West Coast University-Child Care

Hello All,
I am getting ready to start West Coast University, Anaheim on 2Feb09. I was wondering if anyone has any advice or referrals of child care facilities that may be able to accomodate the schedule at this school. I really just need to cover until about 7pm until my husband gets off of work. Typically most child care centers close by 6pm. I don't need full time M-F, just enough to accomodate my changing school schedule. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great! Thanx.

I haven't started yet. I chose this school because i found out the waiting list at the community colleges to get into the program is so long. At least one year to finish pre-reqs, then at least a 2 yr. wait to get accepted into the program, then another year for the program. So, at a minimum of 4 years to get an ADN. Forget it. I'm not getting any younger. I will complete this school in 18mos. and be working. I'll deal with transfer credits and pursuing a bachelors after I get my RN. It was a pretty hard decision though, because it costs a lot of money.

Hi, I was just wondering if your orientation and registration on different days? Were they mandatory. I'm going to start for the BSN program in April @ Anaheim. I'm hours away from the area and I just want to know if it is necessary to spend more money to fly down there for something I can do online. Lastly, how are your classes going? Is everyone in your class ONLY from your ADN program?

Well, if you haven't already gone through the admissions (registration) process, you will need to do that first which could be a couple of trips (with the test, and financial aid). You don't really have registration per se. Either your admissions rep should give you your schedule or you will get a copy of it at orientation. If you are taking online courses, there is a separate (additional) orientation (conducted online the week prior to your class starting). Because you are coming from far away, they may arrange something with you as far the on campus orientaiton. I am taking Anatomy and English. Just took my first test tonight. There is a lot of material to cover in a short time. I'm worn out right now, trying to adjust my schedule to meet the time requirements of the homework. The online classes appear to require more work, as so far, I've turned in a few assignments and have a quiz, where the people in class on campus have barely cracked the book open. Anatomy, so far, is not hard as far as the material, the homework is just VERY time consuming. I have people in my class from the BSN program as well. So, some of the class are already LVN's and some are not. I'm sure in a few more weeks I'll have a better feel for the whole thing. As of now, just a real impact to my daily schedule. So, I'm guessing you are trying to do your pre-reqs from your current location...when in the program do you plan to move to the area?

By the way, thanks zerovero for your suggestion about childcare. I ended up finding child care for the time being, however, I will need to readjust every 10 weeks. I'm hoping this one will be flexible enough to adjust according to my schedule. They are aware of my situation. Now my next obstacle is how I'm going to pay for it once I'm in school 4 days a week! I'm just going for it and figure I will figure out something when the time comes; I always do.

hi nurse2bmom,

I am also in my first term at WSU- Ontario. My classes are anatomy and written communication. The anatomy class and labs are intense to say the least.

My mom watches and cares for my two boys while I am in school. I am not sure where you live. If you need a back up alternative, she can watch over your children too at our home in chino hills. She has worked at a few childcare centers and took some classes through ROP a few years back.

Good luck with classes. =D
