Being a single Mom it will be tough. I assume you will qualify for the PEL Grant but I think that will have to wait till next year now? I think the deadline was the beginning of March. Have you filled out your FSAFA <sp> online? I would begin with that.
I have money in a college fund for my 21 year old son who is not using it. So I rolled it into my name. But that only covers about 40% of the tution. I will have to do loans for the remaining amount .I am more worried about where I am going to get the money to pay for the childcare I need... that I am not currently paying for...
Are you planning on working?

I did not hear anything about the tution increase - but I am not surprised... they can charge it so they do. If that makes sense. The programs are so impacted all over...

I am paying almost the full pop of 116,000.00 - a little shy of that because I had a few pre-reqs.

I go today at noon to see if I am going to start now in April.
Keep us posted!

I am planning on working until the nursing classes start, from there we will see. It will be hard as a single mom, but luckily I do have the help of my parents as much as they can. I just look at it that I have to do this to make our lives a lot easier.

When I talked to Al Bond at WCU the other night, he said I might be able to trim off about 15-20k from the 116K total from the pre-reqs that I have taken. It is still A LOT!!! I would need a co-signer for the private loans and that is where my parents would come into play. Unfortunatley, my mother isnt liking the sales aspect of this school and is worried about the price, as we all are, so we'll see.

I want to go so bad, but I don't want to be in debt forever!!

I hope it works out - there is a sales aspect to the school - but just so you know, I contacted two different hospitals - Mission and Hoag and spoke with their HR nursing recruitment and they do hire from West Coast ... that helped me make my decision.

Hmm, that is helpful, thank you.

Well I go tomorrow for my HESI so I will ask some more questions then. Talking to you has given me a lot of insight, thank you!

I was concerned that going to school there would imped my chances of getting hired in an already competitive market - but was reassured by those two hospitals. I have not been able to get an answer back yet from Cal State Fullerton to verify the information supplied here that they DO take graduates into their Master's program.

Thats interesting about Cal State Fullerton. Not that I am planning to get my Masters, but it is a concern that these classes are only recognized in their schools. If you hear back please let me know. I will try to check also.

Someone on the boards did indicate that they spoke with Cal State Fullerton - having said that I am not going to make a decision based on what I read here and encourage others not to either - I think there is extremely valuable information but how I would be foolish to think "I read it on a message board so it is true" with no disrespect meant at all! The BSN program is new to
West Coast so I am not sure how anyone would have graduated, starting working and gone back for their masters yet for Cal State to indicate they do take them.... ?

That is very true. I did just e-mail someone at Cal State San Bernardino to ask them about.

My other option is waiting to get into a community college nursing program since I have my pre-reqs completed for a ADN program. I called the other day to San Bernardino Valley College and asked their wait, it is 2 years. I submitted my application in Feb. I am going to get a hold of someone there and see if they have heard anything about it and if units transfer.

No one from West Coast has told me that I will be able to get into a Master program. In their defense my stepson is looking at BFA programs and many of them (at accredited 4 year colleges) do not "qualify" for him to go onto a masters program...
