I am taking the same classes, except at the Orange County campus. Thank you so much for the offer! I am taking English on-line, and let me tell you, I am a busy somebody. Anatomy homework alone took me at least 12 hours plus the additional study time. English is keeping me busy too. It takes me forever to get my head together to write something and I've had at least 2 writing assignments due every week, plus class participation in discussions, plus a quiz and reading. So, are you going for your ADN or BSN? Good luck to you too.

Hi, I read your post and was curious about your classes. I am looking into going to the WCU in Ontario and doing their bachelors program. I have taken all pre-reqs for normal nursing programs and I am just sick of waiting to get into a program. How far in are you now and how is it going? Do you have any advice good or bad? How many days a week do you go to school? Did you have any classes completed prior to start WCU? Sorry for all of the questions, I am just really curious.

Thank you and good luck!!

Hi Jenbabe741,

Thats good that you have all the prereqs done, if you have taken them within the past 5 years you will get transfer credit for them. If not, you can still get credit if you decide to test out of them (take the final without prep or review --$100 fee) The classes are going well. I did not have classes to transfer and am going to test out of 3-4 classes. The classes are fast paced. Each class runs between 4.5 to 6 hours long- once a week- Treat Labs as a separate class and another day that you'll be in class. Just keep up with your studies, homework and attendance and you'll be fine. The class sizes are relatively small for prereqs. they run between 23-50 students.

So far, I am enjoying my time here at school. The counselors, deans and instructors have all been very welcoming and are reachable. What I mean by that is you can come and talk to them about anything (questions, expectations, help etc) at anytime. They have an open door policy. Main thing is, if you are confused or need help, speak up, ask someone- the instructor or classmate. If you can, try studying in groups, it gets the homework done much faster and its great to bounce ideas off of each other.

I am about 1/2 way in my first term (prereqs Anatomy and Written Communication). We are taking midterms this week. Some of the homework is busy work or what i like to call "forced study". I hope that helps you with your decision, perhaps we will be in a class together since you have so many of your classes done. Or perhaps you will be ahead of me and you can give me pointers later =D.

Thank you so much for the information. My biggest worry is cost, as I am sure everyone else's is. I would hate to try to pay that, but waiting to get into a nursing program is horrible. I am weighing the costs of doing this verusus working until I get into a program in probably 2 years and then not be done for another 2 years!! Its difficult but will be worth it in the end no matter what I decide!!

I have a call into the counselor about my pre-reqs. I would love to be able to knock off some of the terms to speed it up and cut the costs.

Again thank you for the information and I would love to hear how you are doing and any new info you come across.

Good luck!!

I am hoping for signing bonuses or loan repayment contracts once finshed with BSN. There are scholarships available for those who commit to working for medically underserved communities for 2 years ( i think up to $19,000 for loan repayment and $10,000 for scholarships) That can help some.

Yeah, I am hoping for that too. Luckily we are in a field that there are so many opportunities for scholarships and signing bounuses. I know Johnson & Johnson has a lot as well as Kaiser. Those are just two and there are a bunch more.

I didn't really think about loan repayment... Thank you for the idea.

I can't wait to go next week and get some of my questions answered. My biggest question is how many of my classes that I have previously taken can be transfered. Depending on that, I can cut time off and save money hopefully. We will see!!

Thank you again for all of your info, it has really helped.

I have a question, what are the general ed classes that you have to take throught West Coast? How many terms are these before the "real" nursing stuff starts? I am just curious to see how much I have taken already.

Thanks!

Jenababe - It is my understanding (and I am sure socalnursing student will know more as she is already attending) that the first 9 months are the "general ed" and then the nursing starts. It is fast paced... I am starting either in April or June (I was set to go in June and the admissions person called today to say they have a spot for April) Like the orginal poster I have children to consider and it is happening faster then I was mentally prepared for... I go in tomorrow at noon and will see what the first session schedule is...

Hi Jen & Cal Student,

Here is the schedule that I have from the information session.
160 Weeks total program (16 terms)
1 Term = 10 Weeks
2 Terms = 1 Semester
1st 6 Terms is Gen Ed and Last 10 is Nursing Core

Here are the BSN Gen Ed courses we have to have (by example term #):
1. Anatomy / Written Communication
2. Physiology/ Oral Comm
3. College Math/ Psychology/ Sociology
4. Biochem/ Lifespan Psych.
5. Cultural Pluralism/ Written Comm 2
6. Micro Bio/ Pathophysiology
*7. Fundamentals of Nursing/ FoN Lab/ Pharmacology
*8. Med Surg/ Medsurg Lab/ Phys Assess
*9 Med Surg Geriatrics/ Lab/ Leadership & Mgmt
*10 2 Nursing classes/ Stats
*11. 2 Nursing classes/ Lab
*12 2 Nursing classes/ Lab
*13 2 Nursing classes/ Lab
*14 Nursing Research/ Trends
*15. 2 Nursing classes/ Lab
*16. 2 Nursing classes/ Lab

(Sorry got lazy for the nursing classes) just wanted to let you get the overall picture.

Hope this helps. Hope you can knock out some of those classes, that is if those classes were taken within the last 5 years. Have your transcripts ready for eval when you come, so you dont waste so much time going back and forth to campus like I did.

I went yesterday and talked to the Admissions guy. I agree that this is all fast!! Did you hear anything about tuition increase? I am curious if this is just something they are saying to try to get me to sign up soon. I am supposed to go Sat. and take the HESI and then go back Monday or Tuesday for Financial Aid.

I did see the schedule and luckily I only need 5 out of the 13 pre-reqs, so that will help. After talking last night, he said I can start in June and begin the nursing part in Feb.

If you don't mind me asking, how are you paying. Are you just going to depend on Financial Aid and Private loans. That is my biggest issue because I am a single mom.

Thanks for your advice!! Good luck to you!
