Volunteering?

Hi everyone! I graduated last December and still have not found a job in an acute setting. I got my license in June and have applied to just about everywhere in the Bay Area. In order to pay my bills, I took a job at a SNF. My question is, would it help me get a job in the future if I volunteer at an acute hospital in my area on my days off? I would not qualify for a New Grad program, but will it help me a get staff nurse I position?
