which specialty should I work as a new grad nurse?

Updated Mar 19, 2007 at 09:01 PM by mistyone1

Hi,

I am attending the BSN program in MA and I am graduating in May 07. In MA, new grad nurses must work at medical-surgical unit for one year before going to other specialty areas. However, I heard that new grad nurses in california can go to critical care unit as a new grad nurse.

My friend straight went to ICU with taking new grad program as a new grad nurse. She said that she learned a lot, but it is too stressful.

I am thinking about medical-surgical unit(maybe less stressful than ICU), ICU(b/c I want to learn a lot), NICU(maybe more stressful than ICU?), or maternal(I liked my materanl rotation)...
which area should I work as a new grad nurse??

p.s. I didn't have preceptorship.

Go anywhere you want. Just make sure that you have a decent internship before being thrown out to the downtrodden and diseased.

The only thing I don't suggest is Psych, You can lose skills quickly... Good luck with whatever you choose
