searching for a job as a new grad

Sorry you having trouble. There are some jobs out there but not as many as a few years ago and hospitals can afford to be more chosey but I heard that the VA is hiring new grads...I have to say that I doubt an agency will touch you unless you have experience. Good luck.

Keep in close touch with the recruiters from all the hospitals plus take it a step further and call the units you are interested in to get the names of the nurse managers and deliver them a custom cover letter and copy of your resume. Hand deliver it if you can, but of course if they are at all busy just leave it in their box on their office door. When an opening comes up that a new grad is eligible to fill they may not go down a nice neat list. The see whatever is in front of them first. And if your resume is on their desk and your name in their mind they will call YOU. Keep it up and establish pleasant, professional associations with your name. I got my first interview after only after hand-delivering to units I was interested in. When I had an offer, I let the recruiters at the competing hospital know and then the NM's really started calling. I ended up with offers from two magnet hospitals. hang in there! i am in a similar situation. apply to every new grad program you can. kaiser (apply to the IP/I/II in the title jobs), VA, standford, packard, sutter, etc. Also, go to any and all open houses, info sessions, and career fairs you can find. The wider you cast your net the better chances you have in getting something. I am temping with an agency doing flu shots & working PT at a clinic. The clinic is per diem & they are flexible & they know i'm looking for a hosp job. As far as websites, craigslist, aftercollege.com & the hospital websites have great info. I agree with the other poster call, email, visit with recruiters. Oh, and also use your classmates. Have them be your eyes and ears on the units. Maybe even have them hand your resume over to their managers. Don't give up. You've worked hard for your license and it will take you places! Good luck!

have you tried aftercollege.com? theres a lot of different things on there. and what about where you did your clinical rotations? I have a job at mine guaranteed! im sure yours would hire you as well because they already know you and what youre all about so to speak .. my instructor told us to come back when were done... they were already looking for a LVN there 7a-4p shift .. and she said shes willing to hire us w our permits... ive seen VA, and county hire LVN and just word of mouth as well .. also unfortunately it is WHO you knwo in orer to get into the hospitals .. I know NO ONE and Ive applied to the hospitals since May of this yr ...6 mths late havent heard anything ... dont give up hope!!!!!

Call the hospitals you have applied for and follow up with their nurse recruiter. There are also a few books on barnes and noble that will help you with your presentation skills, my 1st year as a nurse and the everything nurse book,Your career innursing is also a good one. It will help to compete resume and other helpful hints. Definitely look for hospitals that have a new grad class! Too bad you don't want So. Cal, I am in charge of a new grad program here.
