San Fran Per Diem Advice?

Hi

I am a nurse from the midwest looking to travel back and forth between San Fran and my home. I want to do two week blocks of work and go Per Diem. I know there are tons of nurses from other parts of the country who do this and I would greatly appreciate any advice, suggestions or comments.

I have two years of ICU experience but would work whatever is available. I'm looking to work a bunch of hours over the course of my two weeks, also the experience of working other floors would be great.

I guess I'm looking for advice on which hospitals would be the best for this type of situation. Also any advice on where to live in relation to the hospitals. I have been scouting out craigslist for rooms, I need to know however about the areas around the hospitals.

Thanks

I worked with a nurse who was full time, not per d, and lives in South Dakota. She schedules herself for a set block of days and goes home for a week or two. This way she gets benefits too. She has the same arrangement with the hospital in SD.

Something to watch for: get 12-hour shifts, or you will be working every single day.
