Do you mean Alta Bates or Alta Bates Summit? Because Alta Bates Summit is not really walking distance from Berkeley...

I think the area around Alta Bates (the one in berkeley) is safe, at least by berkeley standards, especially as you head east on ashby towards college (At college and ashby there is a nice little shopping district as well).

Alta Bates Summit isn't in the greatest neighborhood. (Although things may have changed since I lived in the east bay). Lake Merritt is southeast of there and may be your best bet if you want live nearby.

Thank you very much for the information kitsune01. So my best bet will be to live close to berkeley. I don't drive yet so I would like to be close to the hospital.

I do not have a job there yet but I've applied and I have an interview next week. Are you familiar with the hospital? I'm interested in neurology. How is the hospital atmosphere?

Well, if it's Summit (in Oakland) you are talking about, like I said, berkeley is NOT within walking distance. For Summit I think you might want to look southeast near lake merritt. Someone who currently lives or works in oakland can probably give you a better idea of what neighborhoods and streets might meet your needs.

However, something to consider is that summit is close to the Macarthur Bart (light rail) station, and there is probably a shuttle that runs between the station and the hospital. If there is you could live within walking distance of any bart station and get to work without driving.

dearhearts,

I did not have a job at sutter alta bates. I applied for it from Ohio and they told me that I have to have at least 6 months experience. I am an RN new grad and not liking this event in bay area titled NO ONE IS HIRING RN NEW GRADS>

Thanks for the replies.
I thought there is a shortage of nurses, I don't understand why they can't hire new grad! Have you tried applying at other hospitals in the bay area?

I am going to ask my sister about these apts in Alta Bates or Berkeley. She lives in San Mateo but I believe that she is familiar with the area.

No, no one wants to hire new grads in Bay area in hospitals, because their classes are offered only couple times a year.

Oh well
