Clinicals are not done on-line. You need to figure those hours and costs in to the program.

Do you actually have an RN already, or will be starting that from scratch?

University of Phoenix has a program that offers the FNP, but it requires that you have the RN already.

I am in the RN-MSN program at CSUDH. I think there is now also one at CSUF. Unless things have changed, they require a BA or BS in something. My BA is in psycholgy. It will take me 9 semesters to finish with my MSN with an education emphasis. Two of those semesters are my role option which is basically student teaching. FNP option takes longer because of the required clinical hours--that will be the same everywhere. I am going part-time (6-8 units/semester). It is great to be doing it on-line, but the clinical courses (home health, public health, management and role option) are all in-person. They are 48 hours/semester and it takes a lot of time if you are fitting it in between your work and family.
If you are working--especially as a new grad on night shift--you may want to give yourself a break for a year or so. The brain can only take so much. I am taking 6 units in 6 weeks for summer semester and it is kind of painful. I like the program and you can't beat the price. I encourage you to keep pursuing the cal state or UCLA route--the student loan thread is very scary.
