Rio Hondo Students Out There?

Hello All~
I've been plugging away at my GE & pre-reqs for the ADN program at Rio Hondo College. I was just wondering if anyone new if there was a waiting list for the program. I'm taking 16 units a semester right now so that I don't have any other courses I need to take during the actual program - but if there is a waiting list - why knock myself out! I have a all A's 7 B's right now and would think I would be at the top of the list for admission - but just wondered if anyone knew anything...

Thanks,
Michelle

Hi Michelle I have friends that attend Rio Hondo and like any other college their is a waiting list unfortunately I am attending East Los Angeles College and as far as Im concerned they will start accepting applications in late 2006 or beginning of 2007. I will be fininshing up my last pre-reqs this fall 05 and it is dissapointing to know that every college that you try to get into has a waiting list...anyways I just wanted to say to keep your head up and dont give up!! Try to apply to as many colleges as you can to keep your odds in better shape and we should be able to get in A.S.A.P. Bye Lady Luck (Johanna)

Default Actually
not all schools have waiting list. My school doesnt. I attend cal state long beach's nursing program. I too attended both elac and rio hondo, and applied from there to csulb.

Im not gonna lie, Its competitive as hell. You pretty much need atleast a 3.5 to even have a realistic chance of getting in. There are three categories that determine acceptance:

1. Entrance Critical Thinking exam (tough)
2. Grades
3. Interview

Y'all should consider applying. There are two programs: basic (3 year) and trimester (two years). Im in the trimester.

Its a great school with great people.

I applied to other schools as well, so if any of you have questions email me at:

good luck.

Hi,

Actually my wife is in nursing program at Rio Hondo. Unfortunately she had problem with this (bad/unfair/bias etc) instructor and was forced to drop the class, not due to her grade particurily. So right now we are looking into other schools. She is left with one class. Overall it's not easy, tests seem to cover things you were not told to study.

We have 2 kids and looking into less demanding program with supportive instructors (if that's possible), even a private college if needed. Her GPA is an average so it makes it tougher to get in, but she has experience working as an OR tech.

She took her pre-req from Mt. Sac. So far we start applying to ELCC, RCCC, LBCC, Cerritos, LA County, Pasadena, Golden West.

Any good recommendation on less demanding program is greatly appreciate?

I applied to LA Trade Tech and LA Southwest in Summer 2005 and I got in to both for Spring 2006. I don't believe there are waiting lists at either school. The entrance tests are not hard at all in my opinion. I just wanted to beat the waiting lists everywhere, so I decided to stick with those schools. Hope that helps!

Re: Rio Hondo Nursing Program

Does anyone know if there are still problems with some of the instructors at Rio Hondo? I was thinking about applying there but I heard that there are some instructors that treat certain students badly, are mean, and unfair. They said that no matter how hard they study the instructor always grades them low.

I saw a post on here from 2005 where a man said that his wife had been treated badly. I was wondering if that is still happening because I would not want to go there if there is a chance that an instructor might grade me low just because they do not like me.

Thanks.

I'm currently a student in Rio Hondo's nursing program and I absolutely love it. The staff is very helpful and supportive. If you are having any problems with an instructor they try to resolve it. If you feel that a teacher has been biased and has not fairly graded you, you will re-tested with another teacher. There have been instinces where students have tested again with another teacher and still failed to pass the class, especially clinicals. It makes you wonder if maybe students just aren't prepared the way they should be and trying to blame the teacher for not passing. This program is very intense and in no way should be taken lightly. It will require alot of time and deciation to successfully pass the program.
