Relocation assistance in CA

Updated Mar 09, 2009 at 09:43 PM by mviehman

I am getting ready to graduate in August from Indiana. I would really like to move to California and was wondering where I can find a hospital with relocation assistance. Also, if i wanted to move there right after I graduate would i need to take my boards in Indiana and CA? Are there any hospitals that will even do relocation assistance for new grads? Any advice?

The state of the economy is really horrible in many parts of California. Likewise, the nursing job market is bad in many areas of California.

If floods of newly graduated RNs from California nursing programs are looking for work for many months without success, I seriously doubt that these cash-strapped hospitals would be willing to pay for an out-of-state graduate to move there.

This is a realistic view of the job market in CA. Some new grads even go more than a year being unemployed. You only have to take the NCLEX one time. Apply for a license in the state that you choose, then endorse it into the other state. However, if you are certain that you will move to CA, no matter what, you probably should apply for a CA license initially. CA can be very slow in processing endorsements according to some people who have posted here.

Is it just me, or are these aforementioned relocation assistance amounts low?

$3,000 wouldn't have even covered the entire bill for the mover to pack me up and transport my things out of state. $1,500 is even worse!

They are operating under the assumption that all one has to do is to pack two suitcases and throw them in the trunk of one's car. You can't get through one month in a residence hotel with only $1500, much less get into an apartment.
