Refresher programs Bay Area

Hi there, I am not sure if you got in any information yet. I am just finished my RN refresher program from JVS and Chabot college, I learned so much from this program. I got some info for next class called Rn reentry program

With all the cuts at the community college and university level, they shouldn't be wasting the money on foreign educated nurses. No offense, but some instructors are being let go and classes are being cut, and yet they're offering FREE NURSING PROGRAM refresher courses for foreign nurses? If that's a privately donated money for that specific program, then that's understandable, but if it's state and federal money that's comes from a non-grant, they need to get rid of it and pay our instructors first and cater to our students.

I also want to add that if the foreign nurses are here on their proper visas and not here on tourst visas, then I have no problem if they take classes here to gain an education.

Hi I just want to ask if the refresher course is really helpful in finding a job,especially for a new grad.

I've heard of some schools cutting back on the refresher courses because there isn't any money in the budget for them. If you're looking to refresh your clinical skills then I suggest try to gain some experience through employment. I know it's very hard to find a job right now in this economy, but there are tons of flu shot clinics out there that are hiring. I've already contacted one but I'm waiting to see what the BVNPT says about the LVN scope of practice in one of those clinics.

If you're just looking for education go to the board website and click on CEU's portion of it, and there lists plenty of schools that are recognized by the board. Check out those schools to see what they offer for education. Good Luck

Just my thought for this thread. I personally took Rn refresher course. The Immigrant Nurse Re-entry Program is made possible through the generosity of the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Kaiser Community Foundation, the David B. Godl Foundation, and the Bar Area Workforce Funding Collaborative (BAWFC) through a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF). Partners Investing in Nursing's Future grant. All participants in the Rn Refresher Course are educated registered nurses returning to or advancing in nursing careers in the Bay Area. Before we are qualified, we all are US permanent resident card holder. One of my classmate is an American educated nurse which she had over 18 years gaps of family raising, she joined our class and found out this class was very helpful and she at least has current experience. JVS provide FREE job placement and job hunting but we have to PAY college tuition like other student who enroll for 7 units. Actually only one of our classmate pay 1400 dollars because she only need one more month to have her permanent residency of at least one year. We all believe that this program should be continued because we proudly say that we are a good nurse who have a good heart and just want the opportunity to utilize our knowledge and skills to serve our clients. We all practice hard and of course we still have to hunt for jobs in this economic situation but we will never give up, I will volunteer for free if I have a chance.....and good luck for all of my classmates, I hope we will all success of finding a job in America.....
For those who ask if this program help to find a job, it is our goal..... that's why we took this class to put ourselves together again. I have done may clinical skills, thank you for my clinical instructors, my preceptors, and the most important person; our clients, thank you so much. I have been looking for jobs since last year after passed my CA Board exam but I get no luck. Most of the hospital required at least 6 mo- 1 yr exp. I told myself well I was so blessed to get in this RN refresher class, at least I gained 10 weeks experience, better than none.

As I stated, if it's privately donated money, then that's not a problem. People who donate their own money shall have it used how they want it. Thanks for heads up about the program pinky.

Why don't you do your home work before making inflammatory comments???

Foreign educated nurses are well trained in their respective countries, and are passionate about what they are doing. And if we are RNs or whether we have taken RN refresher....we have to meet the pre requisites as all other Nurses here. Also FYI, we have to be a permanent residents even before applying for this. So nobody is getting any free pass as you think/commented....

Reread my post thoroughly on what I said. You will see that I have no problem with foreigners taking courses if they have their proper visas and also don't have a problem if the money that's being used is donated privately. When money is privately donated then that money can be used however the donors wish to have it used along side with the people who are coordinating programs. What I do have a problem is money that's coming from the state budget as in our state is in the whole and state money should be used for education towards US citizens/Legal Residents and for teachers to educate them. So before you ruffle your own feathers, I suggest you reread my post thorougly. If you were offended by it, then I apologize because it wasn't meant to be offensive. I believe that the majority of the foreign educated people are well educated in their prospective field and I also believe that the majority love what they do.
