Recently moved to CA

by Mamaof1

Hi all,
I recently moved to California from Texas. I'm very interested in becoming a LVN or an RN.

Right now though, I have an 8 month old little boy, and I'd perefer to start working sooner then later and wait until hes in school to start my BSN. I plan on using my GI Bill to pay for schooling and I wish to start ASAP. I'm really looking for night classes. Time and hours are key to me, I have no previous college either

Does anyone have any links or good advice for someone who lives at Edwards AFB its in the Antelope Valley near Rosamond and Lancaster.

ALSO Anyone can answer this....as an LVN/ LPN (whats the difference?) Can you work in L&D? Thats my goal and I'd LOVE to get my feet wet there!

Thank you for reading this and any advice you offer me!

So most LVNs or Medical Assitants work in doctors offices? I'd be fine with that too lol, I need good hours for my son.

You will find LVN job openings, if you find job openings, in Long Term Care facilities and home health and very few other places. Not all hospitals utilize LVNs and the ones that do want experienced nurses.

Welcome Mamaof1

A LPN is a Licensed Practical Nurse. A LVN is a Licensed Vocational Nurse. They're the same, except that Texas and California use the term LVN.

I live in the Antelope Valley and have recently started the LVN program.
If you need anymore help let me know.

What school are you going through? I'm going through Antelope Valley Medical College , now UAV.

I'm super excited, I also found online higher education certifications for MA's too. I
ll start an LPN/LVN program once I have some experience.....

Any ideas on where MA's can find a job in AV? I know my school offers life time career placement but I've looked in craigslist, yahoo hot jobs, monster etc and there isn't much in Lancaster or Palmdale :/

I lived on Edwards AFB for 2 years. (1998-2000) I then lived in Palmdale for 4 years (2002-2006) I know the Antelope Valley very well. I worked as an LVN in the Antelope Valley for 4 years. I worked at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster as an LVN in L&D for 2 years. I don't know if they still have LVN's in L&D there. The last I heard, they were trying to get rid of the LVN's there. I also worked as a Home Health LVN for Sun Plus. I worked at High Desert Medical Group in the Urgent Care as well. LVN jobs are getting scarce these days. I went to Antelope Valley College back in 2003 to get my R.N.
