Is it possible for a new graduate to get another per diem job, say 8 or 12 h/week?

I am not sure why most jobs in bay area are part time, 0.5-0.8 full time (24-32 hours per week). Are these jobs are too stressful? Is it possible for a new graduate to get another per diem job, say 8 or 12 h/week? Maybe in another hospital? I don’t know how to ask HR about this question. Any help will be highly appreciated.

P.S. other than UC, which hospital in bay area has plenty of 12h shift for new nurses? I know sutter only has 8 h shifts. How about Kaiser and CHW? Have they ever hired new grads? I never receive any response from them.

You will find it hard to get a per diem job as a new grad. If you are currently doing orientation, etc., at one facility, you won't have time to get the second orientation fit in. As a new grad, I would recommend getting the time in on your unit first, or see with your manager if there are extra shifts available at your facility, where at least you will know the procedures and the paperwork.

Thanks, that's exactly what I am thinking.

Just wonder which one? PM me please

Just FYI--I was recently offered a position as a new grad with a Sutter hospital in the East Bay and they do offer 12 hour shifts.

Default hey I am trying to get a 2nd job
But I am not sure if it'll fit in my schedule. I am orienting on days (8 hrs)x 5 and will subsequently move to nights (12 hr)x 3, after the training.
I'd like to start on a psych unit, right now I am on the ICU. I know, odd combination but these are the 2 that I love.
Any ideas on how I can fit full time or part time 2nd job with this.

Most of the hospitals I interviewed in nor cal offered 12s.

Your biggest issue is that you will still require a full orientation with the psych position..............I highly recommend that you try to concentrate on your full-time job for awhile. Holidays will be coming up and you will be able to get all of the extra hours that you want.

With being a new grad in the ICU, there is so much for you to learn, do not try to bite off more than you can chew. You have worked too hard to get your license.............

Default I finally decided against the 2nd job
Thankyou Suzanne for your input. As much as I am dying to have another job and love "if this didn't work out, I have the 2nd job" attitude.
This isn't the right time. I am going to wait atleast 6-8 months before I interview for the 2nd job. One j.o.b is enough work and I am exhausted by the end of the day.
