I met nurses at a conference who work there. They love their work caring for very sick kids. There seems to be a kind culture at that hospital.

Oakland is across the bay from San Francisco. There are very nice areas. Some parts of town are not nice at all.

The BART transit system is great! You can get around the entire area without driving!
Beautiful mountains, redwood trees, warm summer beaches, and all the enticements of two big cities and many nice towns nearby.

I hear the pay is very good. The cost of living is high too.

Oakland has Lake Merrit, the largest lake entirely within city limits in the world.

I live in Oakland, California all my life...Children's Hospital is one of the better hospitals in the area...As for Oakland, it is a city..In some parts the crime is very very high..In some areas it is not safe to walk in..It is like any other big city in America, high crime, poverty in some areas, etc..Your best bet is to live in the cities surrounding Oakland which are quite safe..I am not bashing Oakland in no way..It is just that you have to watch where you go there and be familiar with the areas..

Oakland isn't so bad, if you live in the right area. I live in Berkeley, which is just north of Oakland, and I love it, but there are bad parts too. I just moved up here in July of this year and I love it. I don't know how Children's is, although I just accepted a position there, so we'll see how it goes.
