new RN frustrated to have a job in Cali

I can actually in the same situation. The only difference is that I graduated way back 1992 and never had any clinical experience except school. I was into different fields in the Philippines because the pay for nurses there is way too low...I hope we can get into these new graduate programs soon

Do you actually have a visa that will permit you to work in the US? You have trained out of the US, so do not have any experience with US healthcare system either. This is going to make it hard for you to get hired right now.
Suggest that you check out the International Forum to see what is actually happening right now.

There have been lots of posts on this site in recent months from new graduates in CA who can't find jobs anywhere -- apparently, the market is so saturated in many parts of CA that the hospitals can pick and choose, and are only interested in hiring experienced nurses.

Glad that you have that, but be aware that you are going to find it difficult to get a position there as a new grad. New grad programs have limited space and the jobs are going to go first to those that have actually trained in the US.

Suspect that you are going to need to start off in a nursing home or go further out of the area to be able to start. Also be aware that most new grad positions have already been filled by this time of the year.

Student nurse experience is training only and does not count as experience when looking at jobs, as all students have the same.

Sorry to have to have asked you that, but unfortunately there are quite a few that have come to the US on a tourist visa and expect to stay and be able to work here. That is why I asked, and for no other reason.

And you already mentioned in your post before that you had a SSN# already, so there was no reason to get upset with me. You are new to the US and things are done differently here. Just because you have taken and passed the NCLEX exam, it does not mean that you are going to get hired right away, and this is especially true if you are in an area where many wish to work and there are not enough new grad programs to go around.

And if you would have taken the time to do some reading on the International Forum, and you still are an international nurse since you were foreign trained. This would still be the case even if you had a US passport, licensure and immigration are two very different things.

At this time of the year, you are up against many that have applied two to three months ago and also graduated from a US program and chances are did their clinicals at the facility that hired them, you have none of that in your favor. And are up against that all the way around, also depends on which school that you graduated from in your country, there have been many issues with graduates from some of the programs there, and you may find it harder to get a job just because of that.

Look, you came here for help, there is no reason to snap off anyone's head because they asked you a simple question first. If you have taken the time to do some reading on this or the Philippine Forum, as well as International, you would have seen that there are many that come here to work and do not have the proper visa to do so, and this is why we always ask first now. Stating that you are new to San Diego tells me nothing at all.

Your training in your country is also not the same as that done in the US, nor the experience with different skills and unfortunately, quite a few hospitals that did hire from your country are no longer doing so because of that reason. The skills may not be up to what they want to see either. So you are going to have to prove yourself first as well in most cases.

And as mentioned above, more than likely you are going to need to start with a nursing home in that area if you are wishing to start to work soon.

This is all that I mentioned to you already. Suspect that you have not had any offers from hospitals and this is exactly why.
