A new era in nursing

Updated Jan 02, 2004 at 05:26 AM by PsychRN03

As many of ya know I am not a CA native but am possibly (I wish my agency would hurry up and straighten out some of their issues) going to be taking some travel assignments there. Also as many of you know I have taken an interest and defended these nurse to pt ratios on more than one occasion. Well the 12th hr has come and gone and the ratios are now law. My question is: What have been some experiences so far--positive and/or negative? For example, are your hospitals ready? Did they even try? Was it like a whole new world of nursing compared to how it was previously? Was it as good/bad as expected? Is this a good initial first step to bring the focal point of nursing back to caring for the pt? What else needs to be done to improve things? Also, I ask that some of you consider posting down the road after the initial reaction to change has passed.
