National University Vaccination Requirements

Hello Everyone,

I was recently accepted into National University's program and while completing the requirements for their health assessment I found out I have no immunity to Hep B! I received the series approximately 10 years ago and have never had a post series titer checked. My current Hep B surface Ag is only 5 and according to my doctor I should repeat the series (which I have no problem doing).
Have any of my fellow National students run into a situation like this? My fear is that I will need to push school off until January so I have time to complete the series. Can I be in the process of receiving the series and still begin nursing classes? All my other titers are WNL.
I did call the nursing department, but the person I would talk to is out of the office until next week.

Thanks in advance!
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer:
Are you scheduled to start in the July evening class? I'm not sure of the answer to your question (sorry), but I have been looking for other NU students on this forum to chat with (hope you don't mind). I am still waiting for my acceptance letter (applied in April...decision should be here in the next few weeks). I applied for the accelerated post-bac BSN. Which program are you doing? Did you take any of your pre-req's at NU?
I hope someone can answer your question...it may be a wise idea to post this on the student nursing forum. Maybe someone had a similar experience and can provide some advise.

at grossmont they told us that we just have to have the first two shots of the hep B series in order to start our clinicals & that after two you're immune & the last shot is pretty much just a booster. it might be different for national univ, though... good luck to you!
