LVN Scope of Practice--Dialysis Certification, The Schools and New Grads Salary

by thevoto

Happy Summer Time!

Since there are few "segregations" in Nursing scope of practices, I just wander if an LVN is allowed to go to certain additional certifications such as a dialysis cert..

I hope it is allowed.

If so, then, there might be a different salary between RN dialysis certified VS LVN dialysis certified; even though the job descriptions are all about the same....am I right?

Anyone has information about training centers/schools of Dialysis Certification especially in Southern California? How long does it take for the training? How much...or paid training, maybe?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,
I was checking into if you get a certification in dialysis myself. I talked with a manager of a dialysis center who stated she new of no certification for LVNs. Please let me know if you find out any different.

Glendale Community College offered a dialysis cert class in the past - I assume they still do. This is not commected with their school of nursing. there is a private program in Encino which is very expensive (on Ventura Blvd). Yes, LVNs as well as RNs work in dialysis. RNs can push IV meds Pre & post dialysis while LVNs are unable. There nust be other differences in practice I am not aware of. Yes, they are paid well.

Thanks,

Yet, I'm still confused and need clarification since some of my friends say that LVN can work in dialysis while the other ones say No, LVN can not work in dialysis.

Which one is correct?

Yes lpns do work in dialysis. I have been doing dialysis for 10 years now and they employ lpns all over the US. I do know of certification here in NY. A friend of mine took the exam about 5 years ago. It is called the Bonnet. I dont know anymore info, but I do know that PCT's all have to be certified by 2010, so you might try asking about their test for lpn.
good luck.
