Kaiser Employees

Do Kaiser Hospitals hire new grads? Its kinda hard to tell from their website. Any new grad success stories or suggestions? Does anyone know any helpful info about the new unit at Oakland opening next year? Thanks

Hi,
I live and go to school on the Peninsula. I have done a couple of my clinicals at Kaiser Redwood City and know that they do hire new grads. They make a point of having the nursing recruiter come and talk to us, etc. The class from last year I know of about 1/2 dozen students who know work at different Kaisers as new Grads.
What is the new unit in Oakland that you are talking about?? Good Luck.

Yes, Kaiser in San Diego hires new grads as several of my students were hired there straight from their NCLEX passes.

However, I do know of a few situations in which students took training and got experience at another hospital and then moved to Kaiser a few years later. It's only anecdotal evidence, but it seems as is this group felt more secure and in their own terms, 'got a better deal' although this might not mean $$$ as Kaiser is a union based workforce.

I do know that Kaiser managers have some leeway in being creative about hiring - a friend of mine very recently wanted to leave a key position and was kept on with a new prn deal (not the usual terms) in the hope they can woo her back if/when her new position does not work out.

If you look on the www.kaiserpermanentejobs.org, and search Oakland, they have many new openings becase they will have a new unit next year. Most of the jobs are OB, L&D, NICU, nursery, etc.. I think I will try to work at Kaiser Santa Clara because they handle high risk mothers; unlike Santa Teresa (so I'm told)..

I talked to kaiser this weekend and they do hire new grads...but you have to start in med/surg and be there for a year!
But the pay is okay and so are the benefits.

I just finished my OB rotation at Kaiser Santa Clara and they hire new grads into many units.. L & D, Mother/Baby, NICU, PICU, ICU... I guess some Kaisers are different. Many of the grads from my school went directly into those units and claim that the training programs were in depth enough to start them off.

Default New Grad Hires
I am an RN with Kaiser in the Sacramento area. Yes Kaiser does hire new grads. I was hired into the ICU and put through an ICU 6 week course along with ACLS and 3-4 months of preceptor. Kaiser has an excellent new grad program and I would recommend it to all.
