If I start at ltc can I take hospital soon

I am in Hawaii and I am moving to California in a year due to military. There are no new grads in the hospitals in Hawaii right now, so I was thinking about starting work at a Long Term Care while I wait for one... I have submitted applications all over Hawaii, but I am debating if I should start looking into California hospitals now. I dont come to California for another year and I am not quite sure if I would still be considered a new graduate by the time I come, especially if I start in LTC. I know some hospitals define a new grad as less than 6 months experience. Anything more and you will have to apply as a regular staff RN instead of applying to a new grad program or nurse residency program. I hate to start in LTC though, I want my acute care experience and dont want to get stuck...

Anyone else in this situation?

I too am in a similar situation. There are virtually no hospital jobs in my area and I am a new RN working as a manager in LTC until I can move to CA. It is seeming more and more that with this economy, I should just be greatful that I have a job and rest assured that in the future, the market will improve. I'm looking for per diem work to maintain my physical assessment and other clinical skills. I'm almost thinking about just going to school full time to get my NP because it seems like there are more NP positions in my area than new RN jobs.
