Husband/wife in the Navy? Stationed in CA

by TRINI_RN Premium Member

Hi everyone, my husband is in the Navy and we're reseaching different places to transfer (in about 2 years). Just wondering if anyone is married to a Navy member and can give any info on base housing, different areas. Where's nice/where's not so nice. I'd really appreciate any information you have. Thankyou!

I really like warm weather. We like to swim, jog, go for walks, and ride bikes. I'd really like to try hiking. We're both pretty tired of snow, so we'll be glad to leave that behind. We're trying to decide between California, Texas, Arizona, Hawaii, Japan, and Spain.

Go to Spain....you can always visit those other places when living in the US. But to live in Spain.....something that should not be passed up.

Bob, have you lived there? If so, where? How were the schools etc? When I was in the Navy our ship went to Almeria Spain but I don't think there is a Navy base there.

I loved the San Diego area. Had friends that lived in base housing down on Silver Strand (Coronado Island). It was beautiful and literally right across the street from the beach.

In So. Cali you can go out to the mountain, desert or beach in just a short drive!!

I have 2 school-aged kids and for the most part I was very pleased with the school district they were in.

Good luck! Let us know where you all end up.

My hubby was in the Air Force (I was in the Navy) and we were stationed in Zaragoza AB, Spain - doesn't exist anymore. Have always heard that Rota is wonderful. Good luck.
