good places to live and work in san diego

I will be moving there in about 6 months and was wondering what areas are nice/safe etc. Also wondering about hospitals--I work med/surg now but would really like to cross train in another area. What places pay best? I heard that san deigo doesn't really pay well.

thanks for your thoughts
Tina

I would contact Kaiser, Sharp, Scripps, UCSD, and the others.
If you are NOT offerred a job many of us staff nurses would be interested in knowing that because some hospitals are saying they cannot find nurses while turning down qualified RNs and LVNs.

I know nurses at UCSD and Kaiser who really like their jobs.

This thread has a few pay rates

I would contact Children's, VA, Sharp, Scripps, and UCSD. That will give you a general idea of what opportunities are available. If you are willing to work off-shifts and weekends, of course, that will increase your marketability.

If the San Diego Union Tribune is online (do a google search), check out their Sunday classified ads.

The best place to live would be close to wherever you work, as long commutes on these freeways can be a nightmare. Just be advised that, as of last week, only 16 percent of those who work in San Diego can afford to buy a home here and plan to rent (or to win the lottery).
