Fresno...Fresno...Fresno

I'm in Fresno, but am not working in a Hospital as I am a Pre-nursing student. Fresno gets a bad wrap but it isn't what they make it out to be. My suggestion, though, live in Clovis. It's a bit more expensive but the police and emergency personnel respond quickly and it has a small town feel to it. I do have to say that all of our hospitals are wonderful. Clovis Community is my absolute favorite. Are there any questions in particular that you would like to ask?

I'd recommend taking a trip there first before committing to a major move. And that's probably true of any area.

I'm not trying to malign Fresno but, the truth is ... I had a friend who moved there and ended up leaving shortly thereafter. My husband travels all over the state for his job and he absolutely hates that area. He dreads it every time he has to go there and, when he does, he makes a point of taking his gun.

On the other hand, I live out in the desert and there's plenty of people who hate where I live also. So ... to each their own. You just might want to make sure it's right for you before you commit to it.

Fresno has its good and bad. Housing is cheap considering the surrounding areas. There are beautiful homes there and very pretty areas but there are sections I would NEVER walk in day or night. If you are looking for dope or a strung out hooker, those can be found there too!

Also you have to worry about getting Valley fever (cocciodiomycosis) which killed my SIL's grandfather. It aint no joke and they still do not have an effective treatment or cure.

I worked in Fresno for nine months last year and would definitely go back there again. Sure, there is the south side which has gangs, just like any other area, but the area north is beautiful.. Great shopping and restaurants in the area. Yosemite is just an hour away. Two casinos close by that have excellent restaurants, especially if you like seafood.

And for the poster that talked about Valley Fever, you see much more of it in Palm Springs area and Phoenix then you do in Fresno. It is normally seen more in desert areas, and that does not describe Fresno.

Kern county is where most VF cases occur and Fresno does have a lot cases, but thankfully most who get it do not get sick. Mainly the migrant farmworkers get it and for some strange reason, hispanics are more predisposed to having disseminated cases of it.

Here in NH we don't have gangs like any of that at all. Living the city life is so different from my comfort zone! Even cities here are small by CA standards and not much goes on. Heck thefts make headlines!

I think a visit is definitely a wise idea. Fresno or Clovis Community Hospitals are better. I cannot stress enough to try Clovis instead of Fresno, though. We are joined at the hip. I can get to any Fresno establishment within 15 minutes and the two cities are a WORLD apart. We do not have hookers, bums, porn stores, or anything like Fresno allows but we're big enough to have about a million Starbucks. LOL. I completely recommend Clovis Community Hospital. Our pay is good but we're not at the level of the bay area hospitals. It is comparable for the are, though. Traffic is not a problem here. We have excellent freeway systems running North/South and East/West that make navigating the city very convenient. It costs less to live in Fresno because we are in the middle of Cali. We do not have the luxuries of the bay area or the South. You have to travel about 3 hours to reach the ocean and 1 hour to reach the hills. There are gangs and crime in certain areas of Fresno, so I won't live in Fresno any longer. I am a loyal Clovis dweller. Please, Please look it up if you are considering a move. I use to be a Recruiter for Comcast and I would do the relocation for our Executives. Most of them would freak about moving to Fresno, but are VERY happy in Clovis. They are that different. Clovis has Friday night Farmer's Markets, and lots of festivals in our Old Town area, which is full of antique shops. However, we also have outstanding Emergency Services, State Distinguished Schools (they stress higher learning and the kids work hard but learn a lot) that are very strict on dress code and keep the kids out of trouble. Google Clovis, California and I think you'd be really pleased. Like I said, you can get anywhere in Fresno within minutes but enjoy a much safer, easier lifestyle. As a matter of fact, there is a beautiful mountain view from our newest highway, 168. Hope this helps.

As for VF, it is extremely rare here. I've lived here all my life and have never personally known someone to get it. I remember hearing of something in the past, but it is definitely not common.

Fresno is the nicest north of Herndon..............and that area looks very similar to Clovis.

St. Agnes for adults would get my vote and Children's Hospital of Central California if you wanr kids.

And as I said before, Phoenix and Palm Springs have more Valley Fever, and the people in those areas do get very ill from it. Saw only one case of it when I wan in Fresno, and it was in a child that was not from the area.

It is more commonly seen in desert type areas.
