Fresno Anybody?

Ive never worked as a nurse in Fresno but I have been there a few times. It is in the middle of the San Joaquin Valley so it is surrounded by large farms and ranches.

I have a highschool friend that moved there to teach. He likes it.

Its a city of about 500,000 people. It has nice areas as well as bad like any city though its unemployment and crime are higher than comparative cities of its size. It is on its way up I think and is growing.

Its redeeming factor is its proximity to Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Forest, both which are two of the most beautiful places on earth. Just being able to go there on a regular basis might make it worth it. If you move there make sure you go to Sequoia in the winter after snowfall.

Fresno is only a few hours from the Monterey-Carmel area so you could easily vacation there. Maybe try a short travel assignment to check it out?

I do not work in fresno so I can't say too much about the hospitals. But I go to local RN program 30 min south of Fresno. I do know that Community Medical center will be opening a new hospital soon. Also about 20 min away is Valley childrens hospital which just earned magnet status . I will warn you about the weather here. We have extremly bad air quality, somedays they advise people to not be outside for long. So if you are Asthamtic or anything be careful. Also in the winter it gets cold and we often have severe fog, I mean really severe where they may have to have highway patrol pace traffic. In the summer it gets hot 100-110 (but at least it's not humid). But all and all it's not such a bad place. Hope I helped just a little bit...
