Fresh Grad RN looking for a job in San Diego

Hi,

I have no idea where to start in my career. I just got my RN license and dont know which hospital in the San Diego area offers a good new grad training for a new grad job. I am also confused which field I should be getting myself first into..... but what really interests me is O.R nursing, so.... I really need help and advice to those who can shed light on this matter.

Thank You!

Hello, I can't help you with the San Diego area...but about your OR interest...very very few places hire new grads directly into the OR. Most OR positions require 2 years acute care or even critical care experience. Don't give up hope though. There may be some exceptions to the rule!

Regarding to the OR position, it depends on which hospitals you are applying! City/County hospitals are willing to accept the new kids on the block! However, not even the L.A. County Medical Center is hiring at this time!

Sharp has a new grad program

So does Scripps

Paradise Valley Hospital in National City is hiring and they are willing to train new grads. There is no new grad program but they train you with another nurse.

Most will tell you that med/surg is a good place to start off. Good luck!

Thanks for the leads, I'll look in Paradise Valley. I have applied twice in Sharp, Scripps, UCSD and Kaiser. I was looking in Alvarado also but they don't have it. I looked in Sharp Chula Vista bcause they need bilingual nurses, I am hispanic but they told me twice, they need experienced nurses. So far UCSD is in the process to hire New grads for Feb 09, the rest already hired last month. Thanks again for the info.

Hospital Re: Fresh Grad RN looking for a job in San Diego
I had forgotten about Alvarado! I was going to post back to say that I think it is easier to get hired on at Paradise. They changed hands about a year and a half ago and many of the staff jumped ship. They reorganized and began to hire LVN's and it looks like they are hiring in all areas. And they really need bilingual staff too because there are so many Hispanic patients.

I think Sharp likes Magnet status and looks for the BSN and Kaiser is hard to get into unless you know someone.

Good luck to all in your job hunt.
