Endorsement from MD to CA

Updated Jul 02, 2007 at 04:32 PM by suzanne4

Hello,

I graduate in 2 weeks from nursing school and I have already initiated the application process for a Maryland license; however, I plan on working in California. I know this sounds backwards, but as I am short on time, I heard that it is faster to get a license in Maryland first, and then go through the endorsement process to get licensed in California instead of trying to get my first license in California.

My question is, how long does it take to endorse into california after obtaining my Maryland license? If I apply for endorsement in Mid August, will I be able to at least get a temporary Ca license by September?

Thanks!

As a resident of Maryland and former Md licensed RN, (now licensed and employed in Penna.) I can say that the Md. Board of Nursing can be a slow, frustrating organization to deal with. Not too long ago, I tried to re-instate my Md. license. I spent several weeks dealing with unreturned voicemails, voicemail boxes that were "full-unable to accept message", unreturned emails, etc. I finally gave up. Instead of per-diem in Md, I pick up OT at my full-time job in Penna. Good luck.

Moved your thread since it is more appropriate for the CA forum.

As soon as CA BRN receives verification from Maryland, they will issue you a temporary license, this can be done the same day if you make the trip to Sacramento.
