Employers: ABSN and lack of Clinical Experience

I'm interested in an ABSN degree.

However, I was wondering if the lack of clinical experience due to the 1-1/2 year program is a problem for employers after you graduate?

People who do a regular BSN over 4 years have more clinical experience -would a potential employer choose one over the other?

Or it doesn't matter???

Thanks!

It depends on the specific situation and the local job market. If your school has an excellent reputation with the local employers, then it will not hurt you to have gone to school there. However, if your school has a bad reputation, then that will hurt you if and when you have to compete with lots of other applicants in the job market.

There is no "general rule" that applies to every case ... and every school ... in every part of the country. In some areas, the nursing shortage is severe and there is little competition for jobs. In some areas, employers have the luxury of being able to choose among several applicants for each job. Sometimes, a certain patient care unit is popular and has lots of applicants for each job while another unit in the same hospital is short-staffed and desparate for nurses.

So ... no one can really answer your question with any certainty. You will need to assess your school's reputation and the local job market in the areas in which you are most interested.
