Does anyone know about the 30 unit option?

I finish LVN school in the Spring and hope to sit the NCLEX exam shortly thereafter. My immediate plan is to continue my education and become a RN.

I understand there are different options in doing so and I am now hearing of this 30 unit option. I am wondering if it is a waste of my time? I have completed my general education requirements prior to starting the LVN program. I have my prerequisite classes through a community college.

With this being said, would it be smart to take the 30 unit option? I do want to eventually get a BSN, however I am not sure if the 30 units would satisfy the college requirements or if it would be just like starting over again.

The 30 units is appealing as it would get me working as a RN before obtaining my degree. However, if it is not going to be a benefit in the long run, I am not certain that I want to spend the time in doing so.

Any opinions or advice? Thanks.

I've heard of this, but don't know much about it...
If I'm not mistaken, you can get your license ONLY in California but not your associates? I've heard some professors talking about it, and they greatly dislike the idea...from the way they were talking, it sounded as if you CAN'T get your associates after this? That doesn't seem right, but it's what I remember them saying...
Sorry for my lack of knowledge about it, but from what I've heard, if you want to continue on, getting your ADN instead of this would be better. Since you already have the pre-reqs and general ed done, would it even save you any time?

You can find info about the 30 unit option at: www.palomar.edu
They have information about it in their nursing section.

The 30 unit option plan is only accepted in CA, so you could never move to another state and expect to endorse to the new state. It does not meet the educational requirement for any other state.

If you are wanting to go for your BSN, do not go this route. And the other posters above are correct, you will not get the ADN with this. And will not have any other degree based on that either.
