do los angeles hospitals really follow nurse pt ratio laws

Im an lpn going to school for my rn here in nyc. Im thinkin bout movin to CA because of the better nurse patient ratio... but I heard that it is not being followed in a number of hospitals, and not to mention that it is being threatened (the law). Should I continue w/ my decision to move or just stay in the big apple?

We follow the ratios the majority of the time. Occasionally we do have push assignments (where we have an extra patient), but it's rare. If hospitals are routinely operating outside of ratios they can be reported and fined.
