Cost of Renting and Living in California

I'm a Canadian thinking of heading down to California. Can anyone give me a general idea of the cost of renting a one bedroom apartment in the los angele or san fransico areas? Also any areas just outside this vicinity that public transit is available to get into these large city centers?
Any input would be greatly appreciated

Housing in CA is expensive especially in the LA or SF areas. Public transportation is something CA has really never developed. In other words, you will need and want a car. In LA an apartment (single or 1-bedroom) in a good (i.e., safe) area will run you at least $1000/mo and probably more. Also, LA is a big area. Do you have a specific city or hospital you are looking at?

yup, depends were you want to live in sf or so.cal. I'm in la 5 miles from the beach and for a two bed two bath I pay a cheap rent of 950. There are apartments where you can rent weekly down here until you find something you like called oakwood apts in marina del rey. Good luck to you, finding a good apartment in a decent area is a nightmare.
