Can a UK RN get a job in CA without US experience?

I moved to CA with my husband's job.
I am a UK RN,RM(15yrs) and have passed the NCLEX and have my CA licence, but I cannot find work!!!
The problem is I don't have US experience, but if I can't get a job then I will never have US experience!!!
I volunteer at present but I really need a job to keep me sane!
Can anyone share similar experiences or ideas with me,thanks.

You can find a nursing job here in CA! there are lots of hospitals that accepts foreign grad with foreign experience. I am one of them. I am a UK (st Georges, Tooting London---Neuro-surgery unit) nurse and came here with no US experience and landed on telemetry (ICU step down unit which I dont have any experience as well!).Just got lucky! The hospital that accepted me even credited my nursing experience abroad. I didnt enquire personally. I have used the hospital website to apply. i applied to 3 hospitals and 1 day after applying, 1 responded immediately, booked me for an interview the following day and got accepted the same day as my interview! Best of luck!

I cant believe you can't get a job. Here in Phoenix I had no problem getting a job. Maybe there is no shortage in Ca and they can afford to be choosy. Most Uk nurses I know dont seem to have any problems once they have their licence. Have you had any interviews?

You didn't say in which area you are experienced... If you have a specialty it will be much easier to find a job. Try Kaiser Permanante, UCSF, they usually have lots of postings. Walnut Creek isn't too far to travel either for you. Try John Muir and one other I can't remember the name of...just a start.
