California employment exams

by augurer

Does anyone have any information about the content of the CA state employment eligibility exams for nursing positions? Are there any study guides out there? Anyone have any experience with the hiring process with CA state?

Not sure what your question is... If you already have a nursing license in another state, then you need to check with the California Board of Nursing to see what you might need to do to qualify for a CA nursing license. Some states have reciprocity agreements making it easy to move between those states and work as a nurse. Between other states, it can be a much more involved process. So start with the CA BON website and go from there.

If you mean the pre-employment tests. They generally cover very basic stuff and a few med calculations. Much easier than boards. That is based on my personal experience from three different hospitals and two HHA's in the sf bay area. The test is just a technicality. Once you are asked to take it ur hired. I never knew of anyone not passing it, but they also all had provisions to retake the test if you fail.

Thank you to jjjoy and Woodenpug. I wasn't asking about the RN licensure boards but rather the pre-employment tests required when applying for RN positions with the different State of California agencies. I've gotten the impression that the tests are pretty straightforward and will proceed with the online application process.

Oh... pre-employment tests for nursing positions specifically with the State of California (as opposed to any old nursing position in California)... I've no idea! I'm not even aware of what specific nursing positions there may be with the state... correctional facilities, I suppose? Public health nurses are hired by county agencies, aren't they? Anyway, maybe you could reword your title to ask for info from any nurse who has worked FOR the state of California or info about apply to work for the state.

If you haven't already gone ahead and tried them---don't worry! No study guides necessary.

These CA employment "exams" just ask for background info and questions about your education/experience. Not much clinical info necessary...

I'm not employed by the state....
Good luck with your search..
