california community college question please read!!!1

by TCLA

I was wondering if anyone can help me out. I am currently a Junior in High School, and I am starting to look at Colleges. My plans are as follows: 1) Plan to attend a College in Southern California, sometihng like SMC (Santa Monica Community College) 2) I plan to take my BSN Pre-REqs here, ( I want to become an RN) And after i finish those Pre-Reqs i wanna go to Long Beach Uni. for their Nursing Program (BSN),

I have two questions: 1) Is this a good path that im taking?? like going to a commu. college for my pre reqs then transfer to Long beach for the BSN program 2) What are some good Community colleges in Southern California, is SMC a good one if i want to take my nursing pre reqs? What are your suggestions on community colleges? I want it to be in southern california, or near Paso Robles california. htnaks!!!!!

Also, how do i get certain university/communitycolleges/nursing program in california to sedn me info on their nursing pregram and or school. Thanks (pref. Long beach & SMC)

The closest community college to Paso Robles is Cuesta College in SLO. Actually, since you plan to transfer to a four year school for your BSN, it does not matter so much where you go for the prerequisites. Most people go to the school that is nearest their home out of convenience. You may have to go to more than one school to get all of your courses in a decent time frame due to overcrowding.

You will save a lot of money by starting at a community college, but they typically have long wait lists. I suggest that if you have the grades, you can start taking your college prerequisites now while you are in high school, and earn simultaneous high school and college credit. Talk to a counselor at your closest community college, and be sure if you take this route, you are prepared to study HARD. Your prerequisite grades are important for nursing school admission.

I think that you're very smart for thinking and planning out your future so early. Many times people get to college and are still working out a plan that won't keep them from graduating on time or without any structure. I think going to a community college first and transferring later is a good decision and will be helpful financially. Good luck!

It's definitely a good idea to start off at a community college to get your General Education courses out of the way (which are listed in the class schedule at every school). Much cheaper.

Tuition and Fees (Not including Books):
Community College (In California) = avg. $260 ($20/unit -- 12 units is full time)
Cal State: avg. $1700

BIG DIFFERENCE I know

Most, if not all, classes at community college will be transferable. I'm just transferring into the nursing program at cal state long beach this fall and I started off at Cypress College and all the classes I took were transferable.

If you have any questions feel free to ask away
