The hard card actually comes from the BON. But, if you are already in California, then it is much easier just to get the live scan done. You can find out the information about it right on the CA BON website.

If you do send in the hard cards, you need to submit two sets.

YOu can also go to your local police or sheriff dept. They will fingerprint you for a small fee and they have plenty of the cards. I did this here in Okla to send to Ca for my license.

We all have to get a fingerprint card for clinicals and I just did it through the school for free and I got the card in the mail a few weeks later. We were told to get this through either a DPS location or the police dept like the above poster said. The police charged $5.

If you are not in the US, please read what is posted in the International forum about going for initial licensure in CA, it is only going to hold you up.
I do not recommend it, nor does anyone else for initial licensure of a foreing nurse if you do not have a social security number. You will not be given an actual licnese unitl you can submit the number, and you won't ge that until you have a job, etc.
