I'm an RN from the heart of Orange County California. What are your questions? Congratulations on your choice of nursing! I've been an RN almost 12 years and in healthcare for nearly 30 years. I am a Critical-Care nurse and Trauma Clinician.

Hello,

I am a nursing student who will graduate in may of 09. I am very interested in seeing what california has to offer. Since i have never been to california i am open to hearing what you have to say about the Orange county and what their hositpals may have to offer a new grad.

My interst are ER trauma/ OR. It would be great if you could please provide me with names of hospitals and the towns that way i can look them up. I am from the subers of NY and i am really looking for guidance on areas to look into.

Thank you in advance for any information you can give me.

I truly love Orange County California. Sitting in between Los Angeles and San Diego on the coast and Riverside and San Bernardino inland, Orange County has access to so much. We have several great hospitals here. Three trauma centers serve the county. They are University of California Irvine Medical Center (UCIMC), Western Medical Center Santa Ana and Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo. All great places. I work at Western Medical Center in the ICU/CCU and am also one of the Trauma Clinicians.
These hospitals are multi-specialty offering cardiac and neurosurgical care as well. All very busy hospitals. Other large (for Orange County) are St Joseph Hospital in Orange, Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach and Saddleback Memorial Medical Center. All have much to offer.
Thats a start, as away. I am sure others will join in. I will try to answer questions when I can.

Good Luck!

I used to work 3 12 hours shift in one hospital, and still work 2 12 hours in another. Its a common practice, and I bet a lot of nurses work like that too. I just dont know if it's worth it. Cant feel the difference and dont see the money, Uncle Sam will just take it.

hi dhel ty for the reply. How where you able to do that? Im just curious because I want to do that too. But im looking at the hospital site and itsays in there 12 hours but the days "varies", so my question is how will I be able to get another part-time two 12hour job if I don't know my schedule? Or will have just have to wait for my scheduling before I apply for the part-time? Thank you so much

Look for a hospital that do self scheduling. I found 2 hospitals doing that so it worked for me for a couple of months. But I dont have weekends anymore since both hospitals require every other weekend sched. So What I do is Mon, tue, wed off thurs and then work fri saturday. Then the following week, I worked mon tues off weds, thurs and then work fri, sat, sun and so on...

Again, for me it was not worth it...

hi,

i am a new grad bsn in OC and had a really hard time finding a job. so if you are a new grad who would like to relocate to the OC, i STRONGLY recommend getting at least 1 year of experience before your move here! it is much harder to get a new grad job here than in other places. i came from wash dc area and it was SO easy to get a job there - all you had to do was pick your hospital.

also, i just accepted a job at south coast medical center in laguna beach. has anyone ever worked there?

good luck!
