American University of Health Science?

by as27

I was looking at the BRN website and found this school.

Anyone know anything about it? Anyone attending this school?

I am a BSN student at this school. It is a really new program still trying to figure itself out. Tuition is about $80K for the whole program, which is 2.5 years long. They are only approved by the BRN of CA which means we will be able to sit for the NCLEX near graduation. AUHS only has ACICS accreditation as a school (as opposed to WASC, which is a more reputable regional accreditation), which is basically a vocational school accreditation. This means we are very limited in which schools we can transfer to. For example, if you want to pursue your MSN, you would have to apply to private schools who will take this ACICS accreditation. Azuza Pacific University is one of them I know for sure of. Public univ like UCLA or CalStates will most likely not transfer our courses. AUHS is also trying to get the CCNE accreditation and we have even met the CCNE committee and they have visited our school several times. We will get a response by April 2009.

My advice to you, is only come here as a last resort. The school is ghetto-looking, and we definitely do not get what we pay for when compared to a traditional college/university.

Thanks for all the information. 80K is a lot for 2 years of school. I really wanted to be able to transfer credits to get a masters degree later on. That is good news that they are seeking WASC.
This school wasn't my 1st choice, but I was going to apply. I'll have to re-think about it.
Thanks so much for your honest input.

Actually, although they showed interest in applying for the WASC accedtn, we were told it was not a priority of the school and they are not planning to pursue it any time soon...
